Moving in Measure came from a void: the majority of dance media focuses on performance genres like ballet, contemporary and jazz; a few may deal in hip hop or competitive ballroom. Largely missing is social dance, a subject rich with its own personal stories, traditions and rules — even if less formalized. I and many others wanted more to read and more to learn; the solution was simply to do the writing of it.
We touch on dance history and culture, including fashion and music, and even its translation to the very different medium of figure skating, and there’s more still to come in our PDF edition. Consider these stories on blues, and the wider world of related social styles, fragments and snapshots — glimpses into communities and movements, not a comprehensive portrait nor representative study.
